Where to Watch Classic Black Sitcoms Right Now: Living Single, Martin, Girlfriends and More

If you’re trying to figure out where to watch classic Black sitcoms right now, here’s the short version. Hulu is carrying a lot of the 90s heavy hitters. Netflix has Hillman and Martin. Paramount+ is the UPN vault. Tubi and Pluto TV are quietly holding more of this era than most paid services.

The catch is that these shows move. Girlfriends left Netflix in September. The Parkers is close to vanishing from streaming entirely. So this page works like a hub. We check every listing against JustWatch and the services themselves, note when we checked, and update as the rights move.

There was something special about gathering around the TV on a Thursday night to watch Martin or The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. It was must-watch TV. Black comedy is why we have a Super Bowl halftime show. If you know, you know.

So being able to find the classic shows we all grew up watching on a streaming service is clutch. Now you can put your kids on to the shows you grew up on. So the next time you come to a screeching halt mid high five with your teenager, they at least have a reference. Right?

Where to Watch Classic Black Sitcoms by Service

Before we go show by show, here’s the cheat sheet for people who only want to pay for one app.

Hulu is the strongest single subscription right now. It has Living Single, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Family Matters, The Bernie Mac Show and Everybody Hates Chris.

Netflix has the original A Different World, Martin and The Jamie Foxx Show. It’s also home to the new A Different World sequel series.

Paramount+ is where most of the UPN catalog lives. Moesha is there in full. Martin and Everybody Hates Chris are there too.

Peacock carries Martin, Good Times and Sanford and Son.

Prime Video includes Everybody Hates Chris and Good Times with a Prime membership.

Free with ads is where things get interesting. Tubi has The Bernie Mac Show, Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper, Everybody Hates Chris, Good Times, 227 and pieces of Living Single, Sanford and Son and The Jeffersons. Pluto TV has Girlfriends and Sister, Sister. The Roku Channel has Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper and Everybody Hates Chris.

The 90s Must-See Lineup

Living Single

Khadijah, Synclaire, Régine, Max, Kyle and Overton are on Hulu, which carries all five seasons. Philo also lists the show. The Roku Channel and Tubi each have a season free with ads, which is a decent way to test the waters before you subscribe. You can also buy it digitally on Amazon, Apple TV and Fandango at Home. (JustWatch, checked October 21, 2026)

One note: the old “Living Single is on Max” line you’ll see in a lot of guides is outdated. JustWatch no longer lists it there.

Martin

Martin has the widest footprint of any show on this list. It’s streaming on Netflix, Paramount+ and Peacock, and you can buy it digitally or grab the complete series on DVD. (JustWatch, checked August 12, 2026)

If you’re already paying for any of those three, you’re covered. Wassup.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

The original Fresh Prince is on Hulu with all six seasons. There’s no free option right now, but it’s available to buy on Amazon, Apple TV and Fandango at Home. (JustWatch, checked October 21, 2026)

Don’t get it twisted: Peacock is the home of the dramatic reboot, Bel-Air. It is not the home of the original.

Family Matters

All nine seasons of the Winslows and Steve Urkel are on Hulu. TBS and YouTube TV also carry some episodes through cable-style access. Digital purchase is available too. (JustWatch, checked October 7, 2026)

Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper

Here’s one of the best deals on the page. Mark Curry’s sitcom is free with ads on The Roku Channel, Tubi and Fandango at Home Free, all five seasons. (JustWatch, checked October 14, 2026)

The UPN and WB Years

Moesha

Brandy’s sitcom is on Paramount+, all six seasons. Season one is also listed as free to watch through Paramount+. (JustWatch, checked September 24, 2026)

Fair warning: Moesha has never been easy to own. Only the first season ever came out on DVD, and it isn’t sold digitally, so streaming is basically your only legal option.

Sister, Sister

Tia and Tamera are free with ads on Pluto TV, which lists all six seasons. Paramount+ only lists one season at last check. (JustWatch, checked August 3, 2026)

Girlfriends

Girlfriends left Netflix in September 2026, ending a run that started in 2020. The good news: all eight seasons are now free on Pluto TV. You can also catch it on the Dabl channel through live TV services, or buy individual episodes on Prime Video. (Rolling Out)

The Jamie Foxx Show

Jamie King and the King’s Towers crew are on Netflix. It’s also available to buy on Amazon and Apple TV. (JustWatch, checked August 17, 2026)

The Parkers

This one hurts. As of today, the only streaming listing for The Parkers is Philo, with two seasons, and JustWatch flags it as leaving. Pluto TV’s live channels air it occasionally, but you can’t pick episodes on demand. (JustWatch, checked October 21, 2026)

There is no digital version for sale. A complete series DVD set exists, but it’s pricey. (Diverse Tech Geek)

The Wayans Bros.

Shawn, Marlon and Pops aren’t on any subscription or free service right now. Your only option is buying it on Amazon, Apple TV or Fandango at Home. (JustWatch, checked August 2, 2026)

Back to Hillman: A Different World

All six seasons of the original A Different World are streaming on Netflix in the US. (Netflix Tudum; JustWatch, checked October 19, 2026)

That matters more than usual as Netflix’s sequel series premiered September 24, 2026, exactly 39 years after the original debuted on NBC. It follows Deborah Wayne, the daughter of Whitley and Dwayne, played by Maleah Joi Moon. Jasmine Guy and Kadeem Hardison return, and Debbie Allen is back as an executive producer and director.

So if you’re watching the new one, the homework is on the same app.

The 2000s Favorites

The Bernie Mac Show

Bernie Mac is on Hulu, and it’s also free with ads on Tubi, all five seasons. (JustWatch, checked September 28, 2026)

Everybody Hates Chris

Everybody Hates Chris has the most options on this list. It’s on Hulu, Paramount+ and Prime Video, and it’s free with ads on Tubi and The Roku Channel. (JustWatch, checked October 20, 2026)

If you’re not paying for anything, start with this one.

The Originals: The 70s and 80s

Good Times

The Evans family is on Peacock and Prime Video, and all six seasons are free with ads on Tubi. (JustWatch, checked August 16, 2026)

Sanford and Son

Fred and Lamont are on Peacock with all six seasons. Tubi has part of the run free with ads, and Philo carries it as well. (JustWatch, checked October 1, 2026)

The Jeffersons

Movin’ on up is harder than it should be. Tubi has a couple of seasons free with ads, and Philo carries some episodes, but no service has the full run. You can buy select seasons digitally or get the DVD set. (JustWatch, checked October 10, 2026)

227

Marla Gibbs and the stoop crew are free on Tubi, all five seasons. (JustWatch, checked September 1, 2026)

Why These Shows Keep Disappearing

Streaming services don’t own most of these black sitcoms. They rent them. When a license runs out, the show leaves, even if people are still watching.

That’s how we got here with Girlfriends. Netflix picked up a batch of classic Black sitcoms in 2020 after viewers campaigned for them, and those deals have been expiring ever since.

The free ad-supported apps like Tubi and Pluto TV have quietly become the safety net. If a show drops off a paid service, check those next.

And if there’s a show you can’t live without, buying it is still the only way to make sure it stays put.

Look, it’s always good to have a box set of the shows without any edits, cuts or reframing. But having a way to stream them if you didn’t manage to hold on to your VHS tapes or DVD collection isn’t bad either. So tell the purists to chill.
