We finally have our first look at young Ghost and Tommy in Power: Origins, the highly anticipated Starz prequel series. Actors Spence Moore II (playing James “Ghost” St. Patrick) and Charlie Mann (playing Tommy Egan) are officially taking on the iconic roles originally made famous by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora. The new series, currently filming in New Jersey, dives into the 1990s origin story of NYC’s most notorious fictional duo alongside a young Kanan Stark, once again played by MeKai Curtis.

Meeting the New James and Tommy

Let’s be honest. Recasting Ghost and Tommy is a massive gamble. Fans have spent a decade watching Omari Hardwick’s sharp-suited, brooding Ghost and Joseph Sikora’s hot-headed, loyalty-first Tommy. Those are big shoes to fill, but the casting here looks incredibly promising.

Spence Moore II (All American, Creed III) is stepping into the role of Ghost. He has the presence to pull off the quiet, calculating ambition of a young kingpin in the making.

Alongside him is Charlie Mann, who is tasked with bringing a young, chaotic Tommy Egan to life.

What to expect: Starz is teasing this as a “fun, rambunctious exploration” of the ’90s. We’re going to see exactly how James St. Patrick got the name “Ghost” and how these two built an empire from the pavement up.

If you are worried about the timeline, don’t sweat it. MeKai Curtis is also on board as young Kanan Stark. You can currently catch him holding down the block in the fifth and final season of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, which is airing new episodes right now.

Why “Origins” Has the Magic Formula

We’ve seen spin-offs hit and miss, but Power: Origins has the perfect creative team behind the camera to make this run work.

First off, franchise creator Courtney A. Kemp is heavily involved. She co-wrote the pilot episode, which means the DNA of the original series is fully intact.

Serving as the showrunner and executive producer is Sascha Penn, the mastermind who has been keeping Raising Kanan incredibly sharp and grounded. With Kemp and Penn steering the ship, this isn’t just a cash grab. It’s a legitimate expansion of the lore.

According to the official statement from Starz:

“Power: Origins will continue to explore the ‘Power’ Universe in fresh and compelling ways, delving into the action-packed origin story of fan-favorite characters Ghost, Tommy and Kanan as they are determined to make their mark on the streets of New York City.”
