Ben Affleck has another banger on his hands, and it lands October 9th on Netflix.

On October 1st, the cast of Animals linked up at Director’s Village in Westwood for the film’s premiere, and the whole night had a certain energy to it. It kicked off with a pre-reception where Affleck was caught mid-bite, tearing into a burger like, well, like an animal. Fitting.

I’ve met Ben a few times over the years, and he remains one of the coolest people in this industry. He is down for the cause, he shows up, and he keeps making projects worth showing up for. This looks like another one.

Who Pulled Up to the Westwood Premiere

The room was stacked. Jason Bateman, Jason Reitman, Matt Damon, and French Montana were all in the building, among plenty of others. Steven Yeun, another contender for coolest guy in the business, was spotted kicking it with French Montana. Ray Fisher was there too.

The photos came out great. Everybody looked sharp. It was a phenomenal night with the kind of relaxed, heavy-hitter turnout you only get when people genuinely respect the team behind the project.

What Ben Affleck’s Animals on Netflix Is Actually About

The plot waste no time setting the stakes: a candidate running for mayor has his son kidnapped. From there, he and his wife find themselves pulled into a widening web of deception. These are two people sitting on explosive secrets they’ve kept hidden from each other, suddenly forced to lay everything on the table.

As they scramble to scrape together the ransom payment, every choice gets uglier and every lie inches closer to the surface. It is the exact brand of marital strain where the revelations don’t just threaten a relationship; they can tear an entire life to pieces.

The trailer shows Affleck’s character getting pushed right to the edge. There is one specific shot of him loading guns into a car trunk that tells you everything about how far this man is willing to go.

The Animals Cast: Kerry Washington, Ray Fisher, and Heavy Hitters

Affleck stars opposite Kerry Washington, easily one of the best dramatic forces working today. Seeing those two play off each other in a high-stakes thriller is the real draw here.

The supporting lineup holds its own:

• Kerry Washington as the co-lead navigating the crisis alongside Affleck
• Ray Fisher, reuniting with Affleck on screen for the first time since their Justice League days
• Gillian Anderson, bringing that signature sharp presence we’ve loved since The X-Files
• Adriana Paz, rounding out a cast that gives the story serious dramatic weight

The Verdict

Animals on Netflix brings a tight, classic premise: high-stakes crime, personal collateral damage, and two lead actors who know how to sell desperation. The premiere had great momentum, the early footage hits hard, and the October 9th drop date cannot get here fast enough.

Queue it up the day it lands.
