The Other Mommy Trailer got me. Twice.
I don’t mean a little shoulder twitch either. I actually jumped while watching it. That’s becoming rare because horror trailers usually show too much or rely on loud noises instead of real tension.
This one? It knows exactly how to get under your skin.
Produced by James Wan, Other Mommy is interested in creeping you out more than throwing random jump scares at you. And after watching the trailer, I’m officially in.
What Is Other Mommy About?
Other Mommy follows a young girl named Bela, whose family becomes haunted by an evil supernatural entity.
The terrifying part?
The creature takes the form of Bela’s mother.
Instead of protecting her, this version of “Mommy” wants something much darker. The entity slowly manipulates Bela in hopes that she’ll willingly allow it to possess her soul.
That’s the kind of horror that sticks with you.
It’s not just monsters hiding in the closet. It’s someone you trust becoming the monster.
The Other Mommy Trailer Is Pure Nightmare Fuel
The Other Mommy Trailer does a great job of revealing just enough without giving away the entire movie.
The atmosphere is heavy.
The tension keeps building.
Then… boom.
Twice.
I found myself jumping because the trailer earns those moments instead of forcing them. It feels more psychological than flashy, and that’s usually when horror is at its best.
James Wan has built a career producing movies that know how to create dread, and this feels like another strong addition to that lineup.
Jessica Chastain Pulls Double Duty
Oscar winner Jessica Chastain stars in two very different maternal roles.
She plays Bela’s real mother while also portraying the sinister entity that copies her appearance.
That alone makes this movie fascinating.
Chastain isn’t new to horror either. Fans will remember her performance in It Chapter Two, and she looks completely committed here.
Joining her are:
- Jay Duplass as Bela’s father
- Arabella Olivia Clark as young Bela
Clark appears to carry much of the emotional weight in the trailer, and that’s no easy task for a young actor in a supernatural horror film.
From Bestselling Novel To Horror Movie
One reason I’m even more interested is the creative team behind it.
The screenplay comes from award-winning Succession writer Nathan Elston, who adapted Josh Malerman’s New York Times bestselling novel Incidents Around the House.
That combination immediately caught my attention.
Malerman already proved he knows how to write unsettling horror, while Succession showed Elston understands character tension and psychological drama.
That’s a combination that could make Other Mommy much more than another possession movie.
When Does Other Mommy Release?
After being delayed from its original release window, Other Mommy is now scheduled to hit theaters on October 9th.
If the movie is anywhere near as effective as the trailer, horror fans should have something to look forward to this fall.
Final Thoughts On The Other Mommy Trailer
The Other Mommy Trailer did exactly what a horror trailer should do.
It introduced an unsettling premise, showcased a talented cast, built genuine suspense, and left me wanting to know what happens next.
More importantly, it managed to scare me before I even bought a ticket.
That’s a good sign.
