Not Suitable for Work has been canceled, as Hulu opted not to greenlight a second season. It’s disappointing news—this was quickly becoming one of my favorite shows. Created by Mindy Kaling, the series follows five twenty-somethings in New York City navigating their careers and relationships. Is the premise groundbreaking? No, but it had so much potential, and it deserved the room to let its characters and subplots fully develop.
Not Suitable For Work Is Looking For A New Home
The cast featured a refreshing mix of talent, including Ella Hunt, Avantika Vandanapu, Nicholas Duvernay, Jack Martin, and Jay Ellis, giving rising stars a real chance to shine. While this chapter of the “Mindyverse” is over at Hulu, producer Warner Bros. Television still plans to shop the series to other networks and streamers. There is still hope we might see it land somewhere like Netflix or Paramount+.
It feels like a great series that simply got off to a bumpy start—a challenge Kaling has navigated before. The Office was widely criticized in its first season when it leaned too heavily into the mean-spirited tone of its UK predecessor. With a few key tweaks, it went on to become one of the most beloved sitcoms in television history, spawning the new spinoff over on Peacock.
Hopefully, Not Suitable for Work catches a second wind. Even if it wasn’t the right fit for Hulu, here’s hoping another platform gives it the second chance it deserves.
